Sewing 101

February 9, 2011

My baby sister and her best friend moved in together this past January so I decided to try my hand at sewing as a house-warming gift of sorts.

Simply put, I’ve never sewn before and it wasn’t the easiest task … but I had a great teacher guiding me and it was fun!

She instructed me to pick out some more durable fabric and the felt, well that was all me. My passion for felt cannot be denied.

I started out with cutting big circles, which I traced from cup coasters, and small circles, which I traced from the bottom of a cup, and figured out the pattern once I was done with the initial sewing.

The felt patterns were super simple, I just sewed a straight line across the circles and back to secure it in place and I was done.

In the end, there was enough excess fabric and stuffing that I was able to make two smaller, crooked pillows for my girls. They may not be the most amazing pillows ever, but I can guarantee that they are one of a kind!
